JAKARTA -- Apple is reportedly reconsidering investing in OpenAI, the company behind the popular ChatGPT service. This move could strengthen Apple's position in the artificial intelligence market (AI).

As part of Apple Intelligence's initiative to launch later this year along with iOS 18, Apple plans to allow users to connect Siri with ChatGPT to address multiple questions. However, the involvement between the two companies can deepen with an injection of funds from Apple.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Apple is in talks to invest in OpenAI in a new funding round. Although the amount of investment is not yet known, it is expected to reach billions of dollars.

Previous reports revealed that venture capital firm Thrive Capital is leading this funding round, which is expected to be worth several billion dollars.

Apple is unlikely to be the only major tech company to invest in this venture. Microsoft, which has invested $13 billion into OpenAI since 2019 and has 49% of its profits, is also expected to increase its investment in this round.

After the announcement of the partnership at WWDC, Apple reportedly sought a role as a new board observer at OpenAI, which was linked to Phil totaling. However, the rumors were denied after Microsoft resigned from the observer's position.

For Apple, this investment is a logical step because the company is working with OpenAI in an effort to increase Apple Intelligence's initiative. This investment also has the potential to deepen integration, similar to what Microsoft is doing to its own products.

OpenAI has released the ChatGPT app for Macs, despite having faced some problems at its initial launch.
