Using YouTube Videos To Train AI, NVIDIA Demands Compensation Of IDR 77.1 Billion

JAKARTA In July, it was revealed that several large companies took YouTube videos to train their Artificial Intelligence (AI). One of the companies that did this was NVIDIA. YouTubers felt that NVIDIA's actions were unfair and were detrimental to them because NVIDIA took advantage of stealing their videos. Therefore, YouTuber David Millette filed a class action lawsuit against the tech giant. Reporting from How to Geek, NVIDIA was accused of violating California's Unhealthy Competition Act for sacrificing creators' creativity just to enrich themselves. The company also took YouTube content without the permission of its creators. Millette's lawsuit refers to documents and conversations of the leaked NVIDIA project and was disclosed by 404 Media some time ago. The company plans to build an advanced model called Cosmos. NVIDIA had stated that it was operating according to applicable law, but Millette's filed lawsuit focused on the losses suffered by creators. The YouTuber also demanded compensation of 5 million US dollars (Rp77.1 billion).

The use of YouTube videos to train AI is also revealed in the results of investigations conducted by Proof News. Apart from NVIDIA, other tech giants caught taking YouTube videos are Apple, Anthropic, and Salesforce. All of these companies use subtitles from YouTube videos to train their AI models. There are about 173,536 subtitles used and all these subtitles are taken from 48,000 different channels. This subtitle transscript is taken from various types of channels, ranging from education to entertainment. The most widely used amount of subtitles comes from one of the great YouTubers, namely PewDiePie with 337 video subtitles.
