JAKARTA - WhatsApp is now introducing a new feature that allows users to organize events in group chats. This is known, according to a release note for the latest update.

This event planning feature allows users to host events, meetings, and live social meetings in group chats. This feature was previously only available for Community group chats in May, but now WhatsApp is expanding it to all groups. From the WhatsApp blog:

"With the event's features, it's now easier for people to plan their meeting directly on WhatsApp, whether it's setting up a virtual meeting or birthday dinner. Anyone can create an event and others can respond so that the whole group knows who will attend. Guests can also find events on the group's information page, and those present will get automatic notifications as the event approaches."

To set the event, tap the + button in the group and select the Event. Users can select the event name, optional description, start date, location, and WhatsApp call link (for voice or video calls).

Once the event is created, notifications are sent to all group members. WhatsApp says that this option is currently rolling out and will be available in stages in the next few weeks.

Last month, WhatsApp reached an important milestone with 100 million monthly active users in the United States, which is different from traditional Europe dominated by other messaging services such as SMS and iMessage.
