JAKARTA YouTube launched two new features for users who subscribe to the Premium package. The two features added are Jump Ahead for long videos and Picture-in-Picture for Shorts. Jump Ahead, a feature tested last May, can help users in passing through unwanted parts. With this feature, they don't need to tap the screen repeatedly or manually shift the time to the important part. When tapping the screen twice, users will see the Jump Ahead button at the bottom right corner of the screen. When clicked, this Artificial Intelligence-based feature (AI) will bypass a frequently missed section by other users. The new Jump Ahead is available to all YouTube users in the US who use Android phones. In the near future, this feature will be extended to iOS. There is no information regarding when this feature will be expanded to more countries. Meanwhile, the Picture-in-Picture feature will help users in watching favorite Shorts videos while continuing to explore applications or chat rooms on messaging platforms. This capability already exists in the long video version, but has just been added to Shorts.

To use the feature, users only need to open the Shorts tab, then get out of the application. The video will continue to rotate when the user switches to the app. The window that appears will display play control, pause, or switch videos when clicked. Just like the Jump Ahead feature, the new Picture-in-Picture feature is available to Premium subscribers on Android. Google is still preparing these two capabilities on iOS so it will take some time until the feature is ready to roll out.
