JAKARTA Since last May, Meta began labeling Made with AI to all photos made with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. The labeling applies to Facebook, Instagram, and Threads applications. Initially, this feature worked well and didn't get a negative response. However, recently, photographers or regular users have been angry because Meta added Made with AI labels in their own portraits. One of the most talked about examples was a photo uploaded by the Kolkata Knight Riders cricket team while winning the Indian Premier League Jacket Tournament. The official account uploaded a photo when the team was holding a trophy, but Meta gave the wrong label. Pete Souza, a former White House photographer, is one of the people with problems with this label. To TechCrunch, Souza said that this happened because the editing system in Adobe was changing. Whenever users wanted to keep their photo in JPEG format on the Adobe platform, they had to flatten the image. It seems that this editing action triggered the labeling system so that Meta labeled Made with AI.

"The annoying thing is that the post forced me to include 'Made by AI' even though I didn't check it," Souza said. Meta doesn't consider complaints from Souza or any other photographer. However, once this issue is reported, Meta says that they are evaluating its label approach. They will receive input from each Meta platform user to label suitably.
