Apple Doesn't Pay OpenAI Even Though It Uses ChatGPT On IOS 18

JAKARTA When holding the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday, June 10, Apple announced that it had entered into partnerships with OpenAI in using ChatGPT. At that time, Apple said that OpenAI's Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbots would be integrated into several features in iOS 18. Although it seems that the agreement between Apple and OpenAI is quite large, the company does not explain the details of its agreement. However, it was recently revealed that Apple did not pay OpenAI a bit in use of ChatGPT. Based on Bloomberg's report, the partnership between Apple and OpenAI does not generate revenue for both parties. Sources familiar with the agreement say that Apple believes with the ChatGPT exposure integrated into iOS 18. The company believes that this integration has the same value or even greater than cash. Apple is also confident that the use of ChatGPT in iOS 18 will encourage or promote the use of OpenAI technology to hundreds of millions of iPhone users. Although Apple is currently not paying, this could change in the future.

After iOS 18 launched, Apple plans to sign a profit-sharing deal with the AI company it works with. Through this deal, Apple can get a cut from partners who monetize the use of chatbots on Apple's platform. For now, Apple is only working with OpenAI. ChatGPT which is integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequiao can be accessed for free. Especially for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, they can access various additional features from Apple.
