JAKARTA MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor company, launched its newest product at the Computex 2024 event. The product the company is exhibited is a Companio 838 chipset for Chromebooks. Delivered by MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai, the 838 Companio was specially designed as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) chipset. Using the 650 NPU, this chipset is capable of executing complex computing and processing data more efficiently. As a Chromebook companion, the 838 Companio supports streaming with 4K quality and is able to improve image quality. In fact, this processor supports the use of two 4K screens for content streaming or linking to high-resolution monitors. The 838 Companio connectivity has been upgraded to Wi-Fi 6 and 6E via Filogic MediaTek technology. With its enhanced connectivity, this chipset offers dual-band and tri-band connectivity with speed up to 1.9Gbps. Another thing highlighted from this processor is its battery life. Thanks to the 838 Companio, Chromebooks that use this chipset can last a full day due to its very long battery life.

Although it is not clear how much the battery capacity is, MediaTek says that Chromebooks will remain light and thin. Apparently, this device uses a special technology that keeps the device light even though the battery is bigger. Finally, MediaTek explains that this new chipset supports DDR4 and LPDDR4X. These two types of memories have met OEM requirements so that Chromebook manufacturers can double memory bandwidth over previous generations.
