JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate the national launch of B50 biodiesel at the KM 57 Cikampek Utama Rest Area, Thursday, July 9. The launch marks the start of the full implementation of the B50 biodiesel program which has been valid nationally since July 1, 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen energy resilience and accelerate the transition to green energy.

The B50 program is a government strategy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels through increased utilization of renewable energy based on palm oil. B50 biodiesel consists of a mixture of 50 percent solar and 50 percent biodiesel made from palm oil.

Vice President of Corporate Communication Pertamina Patra Niaga Kitty Andhora said that all preparations ahead of the national launch had been carried out so that the distribution of B50 would run smoothly.

"Pertamina Patra Niaga has prepared the necessary facilities and facilities so that the production, distribution, and distribution processes can run well," said Kitty.

According to him, so far 29 of 126 Pertamina-owned Fuel Oil Terminals (TBBM) are ready to distribute Biosolar B50. The number of terminals serving the distribution of B50 will continue to increase gradually during the transition period.

The implementation of B50 biodiesel refers to the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Number 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026 concerning the Obligation to Mix Vegetable Fuel Type Biodiesel into Solar Fuel by 50 percent.

In the regulation, the government also provides a transition period for business entities that still have B40 biodiesel stock. B40 stocks are still allowed to be distributed until September 30, 2026 as long as they meet the quality standards and specifications that have been set.

Through the implementation of B50, the government targets an increase in the utilization of renewable energy, strengthening national energy resilience, reducing fossil fuel imports, as well as increasing the added value of the domestic palm oil industry.

The launch of B50 by President Prabowo is also an important milestone in the agenda for transforming the national energy sector, which prioritizes the use of domestic energy sources, energy efficiency, and carbon emission reduction through the use of more environmentally friendly fuels.
