Potentially Presenting Human Trafficking, APJII Urges Starlink To Use Indonesia's IP Address

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) has requested satellite-based internet services belonging to Elon Musk's businessman, Starlink, to use IP Address from Indonesia while operating in the country.

Because according to the General Chairperson of APJII, Muhammad Arif Angga, if Starlink does not use local IP, the government cannot control it and unwanted negative potentials will emerge.

Moreover, the presence of the internet without adequate digital literacy education in the 3T region can trigger such negative impacts, including the rise of online gambling, human trafficking, the emergence of illegal RT/RW Nets, and many others.

"When you don't use Indonesian IP, it's difficult for the government or APJII to control it to be used for anything. This is certainly negative," Arif said in an online press conference on Monday, May 27.

Therefore, APJII appealed to Starlink to be the same as the local ISP ISP in Indonesia which uses IP Address from Indonesia. Thus, the government can monitor the Starlink service.

"What is certain is that APJII urges all Indonesian ISPs, whoever includes Starlink, to use IP Indonesia. So if there is a violation of the law, the government can take action," said Arif.
