JAKARTA - Based on the latest data from the Global Speedtest Index, as of March 2024, Indonesia's mobile internet speed currently only reaches 25.83 Mbps. Meanwhile, the average fixed broadband speed reaches 29.37 Mbps.

This report shows that Indonesia's internet speed ranks 103 out of 148 countries in the world. When viewed from the previous month, Indonesia's position has decreased by four places.

As an effort to increase internet speed in the country, the Expert Staff of the Minister of Technology, Mochamad Hadiyana said that his party was preparing a special study.

However, Hadiyana emphasized that this study was not focused on increasing Indonesia's ranking. But so that internet speed in Indonesia is faster than it is today.

"Regarding Indonesia's optimism for the top 5 related to internet speed, if I'm concerned, it's not in the ranking, but in the speed," Hadi told the media during the Ngopi Bareng Kominfo event on Friday, April 26.

Because according to him, efforts to increase internet speed are not only carried out by the Indonesian government, but also by governments in other countries.

"So if I'm optimistic that Indonesia can increase its broadband speed, but it doesn't have to be, for example, ranked 1 ranked 5th in the world. Because if I look at other countries as well, they both increase their broadband speed," he added.

He also added, "Our neighbors in Singapore, Malaysia are also trying to improve that way and the important thing is that there is a significant increase in broadband speed."
