JAKARTA - Microsoft announced on Tuesday April 22 that Coca-Cola had signed a five-year US$1.1 billion (IDR 17.7 trillion) deal to use its cloud computing services and artificial intelligence.

In the agreement, Microsoft and Coca-Cola will "together conduct experiments" with Azure OpenAI. The service uses technology from Microsoft-backed startups and ChatGPT creator OpenAI to allow customers to build chatbots and other artificial intelligence services running on Microsoft's cloud computing service.

Coca-Cola previously signed a five-year deal worth $250 million to use Microsoft's cloud and business software.

The two companies said Coca-Cola would test Microsoft's Copilot offerings to see how these tools increase productivity for beverage makers. Copilot is an artificial intelligence assistant that can help summarize long email discussions and build a business presentation slide, among its many functions.

Wednesday's announcement also includes expanding the use of Coca-Cola on other Microsoft software such as Dynamics 365, which is used by sales professionals and competes with Salesforce.

Microsoft did not mention the financial details of the $1.1 billion Coca-Cola deal in terms of dollars attributable to artificial intelligence services versus traditional cloud software.
