JAKARTA - Intel will release two artificial intelligence (AI) chips with reduced capabilities for the Chinese market. This is done as a precautionary measure against export controls and US sanctions.
The two chips, HL-328 and HL-388, are scheduled to launch in June and September, according to a statement in a white paper published on the company's website and given April 12.
The plan was first reported by the technology outlet The Register based on the contents of the white paper. Intel, along with its rival Nvidia, are also planning a special Chinese chip after the United States tightened rules that limit the ability of AI chips that can be shipped to China by the end of last year.

Intel's special Chinese AI chips are based on their latest product, Gaudi 3, which was announced on April 9, with similar hardware features including in-chip memory, high-capacity memory, and interface standards. However, to comply with export control regulations, the chip's performance will be significantly reduced.
One of China's special chips from Nvidia, H20, is planned to be delivered in small quantities in the first quarter of 2024, with larger quantities expected from the second quarter, as reported by Reuters in January.
