JAKARTA Ray-Ban smart glasses are quite sophisticated because they can record videos to listen to songs. However, Meta is not satisfied with this sophistication because they will add new features.

Since the end of last year, Meta has tested early access to multimodal Artificial Intelligence (AI) features. This feature serves as an AI assistant because it can translate, identify objects, suggest clothes, and many more.

After several months of testing by Meta, the New York Times announced that this AI-based software will be launched in April. However, there is no more specific information regarding its launch date.

This AI-powered feature works like an AI assistant in general. They will receive various commands in voice. To enable the assistant in the smart glasses, users only need to say, "Hi Meta."

Furthermore, Ray-Ban users can directly give orders or ask questions. If the command or question is related to the object, the camera will identify the object in question and the speaker on the eyeglass side will respond.

The New York Times has tried the AI-based feature directly and provided a brief overview of the results of its trials. These glasses were taken around to identify many things in grocery stores, museums, even to zoos.

The results show that the AI Meta added to Ray-Ban can properly identify pets and artwork, but there have been several failures. These glasses also cannot identify animals inside the cage.

Meanwhile, for language skills, these smart glasses support five languages, including Ingris, Spain, Italy, France, and Germany. This language translation has not worked as well as the ability to identify objects.

This shows that the AI developed by Meta is not perfect yet, but is already quite useful for simple purposes. Most likely, this AI-based assistant will be developed over time.
