JAMBI - The Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the Jambi Police has uncovered a case of breaking into the accounts of thousands of Bank Jambi customers with a total loss from this action reaching Rp. 144.82 billion.

"In the disclosure, investigators named three suspects who are suspected of being part of an international cybercrime network involving foreign citizens (WNA) from Bulgaria," said Head of Criminal Investigation of the Jambi Police, Kombes Taufik Nurmandia, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 14.

This case began with a police report Number LP/B/112/IV/2026/SPKT/Polda Jambi dated April 2, 2026. Based on the results of the investigation, the burglary occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

The funds belonging to 6,609 Jambi Bank customers were gradually transferred, then converted into crypto assets and sent to digital wallets outside Indonesia in just a few hours.

The Cyber Sub-Directorate of the Jambi Police's Criminal Investigation Unit then conducted an intensive investigation, ranging from witness examination, digital forensic analysis, to tracing the flow of funds with Bank Jambi and the system vendor.

Investigators also moved to West Java to develop cases based on transaction data and log platforms for crypto assets.

The suspect DD recruited TAS (33), an online driver from Bandung Regency, to find people willing to open bank accounts and cryptocurrency asset accounts in exchange for around IDR 5 million per person.

Meanwhile, AA (35) is tasked with helping with administration, verifying identity or Know Your Customer (KYC), and listing all accounts created.

In the period from October 2025 to January 2026, as many as 45 online drivers were successfully recruited. All crypto accounts and accounts that have been created were then handed over to the Bulgarian WNA network which controlled it from the North Jakarta area.

Investigators also revealed that about a week before the action, DD received information from Alcaz that there would be an "attack" on a bank. After the burglary was successful, the two foreigners contacted DD and reported the successful hacking action.

In the development of the case, investigators managed to freeze assets from the crime worth around IDR 18.94 billion. The police also secured evidence in the form of digital forensic results, customer transaction data, and electronic documents related to the flow of funds.

Jambi Police Reskrimsus Director Kombes Pol Taufik Nurmandia emphasized that this disclosure was the result of cross-regional work to cross-country.

"We managed to uncover the role of three suspects who are part of an international cyber crime network. Their modus operandi is to recruit people to open accounts and crypto accounts which are then controlled by the main perpetrators abroad as a means of laundering money from the robbery of Bank Jambi's customer accounts," he said.

He added that investigators were still hunting for the main perpetrator, who was suspected of being a Bulgarian citizen, and tracing other assets suspected of originating from criminal acts.

"We will continue to pursue intellectual actors abroad through cooperation with related agencies and international law enforcement channels. Our focus is not only on arresting perpetrators, but also on seeking asset recovery so that losses can be minimized," said Kombes Pol Taufik.

For their actions, the suspects were charged with articles related to illegal access to electronic systems, money laundering, and other criminal acts that are still being developed by the Jambi Police's Criminal Investigation Unit.
