Nvidia GTC 2024 Begins, Investors Focus On Announcement Of New Chips From CEO Jensen Huang

JAKARTA - The semiconductor giants of Nvidia artificial intelligence kicked off their annual developer conference on Monday, March 18. Investors paid attention to the announcement of a new chip from CEO Jensen Huang in a keynote speech this afternoon.

Nvidia's latest chip and software announcement at GTC 2024 will determine whether Nvidia can maintain their leadership position as the dominant manufacturer of equipment supporting rapid AI advances as in the previous year. Nvidia dominated the data center AI chip market, with a market share of about 80% last year.

Nvidia's market share is expected to fall by a few percent in 2024 as new products from competitors such as Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) enter the market.

Huang is expected to announce the latest generation AI processor designed by his company. The upcoming B100 chip is expected to have a significant improvement over its predecessor, H100.

Although Nvidia is widely known as chip designers, they have also built a significant suite of software products. Huang is expected to announce a series of new software-related products on Monday. Earlier this year, Nvidia stated that their software and service business had reached an annual revenue of US$1 billion (Rp15.7 trillion) by the end of the company's last fiscal year.

The company based in Santa Clara, California, is hosting the GTC directly for the first time since 2019. They estimate that around 16,000 people will attend, about twice the last face-to-face event.

Huang's main speech will be held at the Silicon Valley hockey arena at 1:00 p.m. (20.00 GMT), the largest place the company has ever had for such an event.
