JAKARTA Iowa, the state of the United States, is suing TikTok because of the limits that are considered inaccurate. According to the country, TikTok is more suitable to be a 17+ application than a 12+.

Iowa Attorney Generalrenna Bird, quoted by The Verge, said that TikTok has inappropriate content that is easily accessible, such as sexual content, drugs, alcohol, dirty words that children should not know about, and much more.

Although such content is easy to find on TikTok, the platform sets the 12-+ age rating on the App Store. According to Bird, this ranking is wrong. TikTok should also not use a labelT which refers to the REMajadi Play Store and Microsoft Store.

"It's time for us to highlight TikTok for exposing children to graphics such as sexual content, self-harm, drug use, and other bad things," Attorney General Bird said in his lawsuit.

Bird also claims that TikTok has deceived parents with the age label they use. Parents may think that the platform is safe to use so they let children play TikTok without guidance.

To support the lawsuit, Iowa researched the account used by a 13-year-old child. As a result, children can find recipes for alcoholic beverages, push to use marijuana, to videos promoting self-harm.

This finding shows that TikTok's Limited Mode is not working. In fact, the mode should limit content with a warning that reads, (this content) may not be suitable for all audiences.

TikTok has responded to the lawsuit. To The Verge, TikTok spokesman Alex Haurek said that his party continues to be committed to prioritizing public safety, including minors.

TikTok applies leading protection in the industry to young people, including parental controls and time limits for those under 18 years of age. We are committed to addressing industrial challenges at large," said Haurek.
