JAKARTA - Artifact, a news aggregation startup from one of the founders of Instagram and CEO Artifact Kevin Systrom said he would stop operations from the application.
"We have taken the decision to stop the operation of the Artifact application," Systrom wrote in an official statement via his blog post on Medium.
"It's been a year, the CEO revealed, even though his team has built this app tirelessly, in fact Artifact doesn't have the opportunity to bring in sustainable investment."
"It's very easy for startups to ignore this reality, but often making difficult decisions early will be better for everyone involved," he wrote further.
To give users a transition time, Artifact will start by turning off various features, such as the ability to comment and make posts. Thus, this is expected to help reduce moderation efforts.
However, existing posts will remain visible for a while, and Artifact will continue to operate core news capabilities until the end of February.
"Titaita dan informasi tetap menjadi area penting bagi investasi startup. Kita berada pada momen yang sangat penting di mana banyak penerbitan ditutup atau mengalami kesulitan, berita lokal hampung, dan pengember besar memiliki hubungan yang buruk dengan perusahaan teknologi terkemukat," jelasnya.

To that end, Systrom hopes that technology can find ways to preserve, support and develop these institutions and that these institutions find ways to take advantage of the scale that AI-like things can provide.
I believe there are intelligent people working on ideas that will continue to surprise and please us in all of these fields. We are optimistic about the future and want to thank our community for being part of an adventure we call Artifact," he concluded.
