JAKARTA Some laptop users with the Windows operating system (OS) may have ever found a folder with the title $Windows.~BT. However, not many know the function of the folder.

Quoting from Makeuseof, this folder with a foreign name will appear every time Windows is updated. This folder is quite important because it contains files that show the latest process of updating such as installation files or logs from installations.

Although Windows has been updated, this folder will last on the hard drive, for at least up to ten days. Usually, the Windows system will automatically delete the folder after it's been over for ten days.

You can also delete this folder manually, but keep in mind that this folder contains Windows installation files from the previous version. When this folder is deleted, your laptop will not be able to return to the old OS by using the Go Back menu in Windows 11.

Therefore, you cannot delete the folder $Windows.~BT in the usual way. It is important to know how to delete the folder in the right way so that you can reuse Windows 10 with the Go Back menu.

In fact, $Windows.~BT is a hidden folder that requires a configuration of Windows to see its folder. After creating a hidden folder in File Explorer, you will see the name of the folder.

If it appears, you can click the Win + R button on the keyboard to open the Run box. Once the city appears, type cleanmgr and press Enter, then click the dropdown menu to select the drive system where you see the folder $Windows.~BT.

Next, click Clear System Files and check some of the options you can see, namely Previous Windows Installation, Windows Update Clearing, Windows Update Log Files, Temporary Windows Installation Files, and Temporary Files.

If so, click OK to Windows warns that this method will make files permanently deleted. You just need to click Delete Files and folders of $Windows.~BT containing your old version of Windows will be deleted automatically.
