JAKARTA – A few days ago, Google announced that they would stop purchasing and accessing movies on Google Play Movies and TV on Android TV and the Google Play website.

Starting January 17, the video on-demand app will cease operations. The branding of this application will be replaced by Google TV, which was launched in 2020. Even though this application will soon disappear, all the films that users have purchased will still be stored.

Google says these films will remain on Android TV devices, Google TV, the Google TV mobile app, and YouTube. If you are confused about searching for it, Google has explained how to access the film in detail.

Especially for Android TV-supported streaming devices, users can find films they have previously purchased in the Store tab. Starting in January, films that have been purchased and films that are being rented will appear in your Library.

Unlike the cable box which is supported by the Android TV system, this device will utilize YouTube. All films that have been purchased and will be purchased in the future will be displayed in the application.

“You will be able to access the titles you purchased from Google, including active rentals, in the YouTube app. Please check the availability of YouTube services in your country,” said the Google team in the dedicated Android TV Help Center.

Just like a cable box, Google Play Movies & TV users on the website will need to access YouTube to view their history of purchased movies. Users can also buy or rent new movies on the YouTube website.

Luckily, the service for watching films on YouTube is available in Indonesia. That way, all your missing movies from Google Play Movies and TV will remain safely stored in your YouTube account.
