Deel Improves AI Accuracy with the Help of Legal Advisors

JAKARTA – Deel, a Human Resource (HR) platform development company, conducted research with Rakuten Insight to find out business expansion plans for companies in Indonesia.

The results of this research show that 77 percent of the 300 business actors in Indonesia have expanded outside the domestic market, to at least one country. However, this expansion has several obstacles.

Around 42 percent of companies do not employ foreign workers even though their companies have entered international markets. The reasons are quite varied, ranging from cost problems, difficulty finding labor, to difficulty managing remote workers.

These various issues have been Deel's focus since the platform was first released. They help companies to sign contracts and provide salaries based on legal regulations in each country with the help of legal counsel or legal advisors.

“That is one of the services we provide to our clients. So, globally, throughout the world we have around 60 legal councils under Deel, but in every country we operate in, we have an external legal council," said Deel Indonesia Commercial Lead Grace Bunardi.

All of these legal advisors are involved in the development of Deel's Artificial Intelligence (AI). The company says it has AI in the form of a chatbot to answer clients' questions.

This chatbot is able to answer general questions related to laws in other countries to information about the company itself. Companies can find out the minimum wage and how many workers they have in other countries.

Considering that this feature is related to laws in various countries, Deel's legal advisors will test the answers provided by the AI. The hope is that all Deel clients will not get the wrong answer.

“The accuracy (of AI) is of course based on our database. So based on the database itself, we have made sure that the data is accurate. Before we want to launch it to the public, we have tested it ourselves within our company," said Grace when asked by VOI.

Grace explained that the AI that Deel developed had been tested for six months. Every time the answer given is not appropriate, Deel will give a low rating so that the AI will continue to learn to find the right answer.

“Accuracy is now starting to be okay. I don't know the percentage itself, but we will continue to develop it (AI) because that's important information, right? HR truly can't be wrong," added Grace.

Deel also emphasized that a company's personal data can only be known by the party who has access, either the company itself or Deel, so that a company's data cannot be seen by other companies.
