JAKARTA - On Monday, November 27, 2023, the Ministry of Communication and Information is holding a FocusGroup Discussion regarding the Draft Circular of the Minister of Communication and Information regarding Guidelines for Ethics Intelligence.

In this discussion, Kominfo invited representatives of relevant stakeholders ranging from ministries/agencies, independent institutions (press officials), academics, associations, industries (including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc.), as well as international organizations.

"I think it's not just today, but it's been going on for a long time, huh. Almost a decade, AI has been a topic of discussion, only because of the presence of a genrative AI, many concerns have emerged," said Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatics Nezar Patria in his remarks at the FGD which took place at Grand Hyatt Jakarta.

Nezar explained that AI's contribution to GDP Asean in 2030 is estimated to reach one trillion US dollars, and Indonesia itself will contribute 366 billion US dollars.

Not only that, Nezar revealed that the presence of AI will also present new jobs, and 22.1 percent of the total workers in Indonesia from various sectors have utilized this technology.

However, the benefits presented by AI are always side by side with their challenges, ranging from bias and potential misinformation, privacy and confidentiality issues, ethical issues, and understanding human values, as well as automation and threats.

"Therefore, efforts to manage AI are increasingly needed so that the use of AI can be carried out safely and productively. For this reason, one of the reasons why we gather is to try to do brainstorming, review a number of the latest developments, as well as lock down the risks that AI may pose," said Nezar.

Nezar hopes that this Circular will later become the basis for increasing comprehensive regulations in the future. Nezar also said that after the FGD, they would hold public meetings in the form of open seminars.
