The signal intelligence system (SIGINT) PEGASUS, designed by sensor solution provider HENSOLDT, is now entering the implementation stage after its design was approved by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and Support During Use (BAAINBw) Germany. This approval is one of the most important project milestones, referred to as the Critical Design Review (CDR), and thus provides a green light for the implementation of the system design.

In the CDR, Bundeswehr representatives, both from public and future users, examine the design of the SIGINT component of the PEGASUS weapon system. In a number of individual presentations, customers are given a detailed presentation of implementation planning for their broad requirements. Meanwhile, the overall progress of the project is communicated through various software and hardware demonstrations.

Furthermore, the subcontractor of Lufthansa Technik, Hamburg, gave an impressive presentation of the planned integration of the resulting monitoring system into the aircraft and related conversion actions.

"The close cooperation between Bundeswehr and HENSOLDT since the beginning of project activities guarantees that the presented design is well received. Its basic monitoring solution "KALAETRON Integral" offers unique monitoring capabilities and a high performance based on strong German key technology," said Jörgen Halder, Vice President of Airborne SIGINT at HENSOLDT.

Two years ago, HENSOLDT was awarded a contract to provide air systems for electronic signal intelligence on Bombardier's business aircraft based on its SIGINT system "Kaltron Integral".

This order is worth more than a billion euros. HENSOLDT acts as the main contractor and is fully responsible for project realization.

The Hamburg-based Lufthansa Technik will act as a subcontractor, purchase aircraft from Bombardier manufacturers, including modifications, and install and integrate the monitoring system developed by HENSOLDT into the aircraft. In total, nearly 30 companies, including many small and medium enterprises, from all over Germany, are involved in this project as suppliers and partners.
