Android And Google Play Push Indonesia's GDP Increase Up To IDR 653 Trillion

JAKARTA - Indonesia is a country that has become a leader in the global cellular economy, with more than 200 million mobile Internet users by 2022.

A recent report from Access Partnership titled 'Accelerating the app economy in Indonesia: Android and Google Play's impact in Indonesia', mentions that the operating system and application distribution platforms such as Android and Google Play are the drivers of this phenomenon.

Currently, the Indonesian people spend more than 5 hours per day consuming content, communicating, and making online transactions. This trend will develop along with the increase in internet users, which is expected to reach 265 million users by 2028.

The report also highlights, where Android's presence increases industrial security and innovation, lowers smartphone prices, and expands consumer choice.

The role of Google Play in this expansion is very important, to assist Indonesia's development in reaching global audiences and to offer an average of 23 new applications that can be downloaded every day.

User security is also maintained in Google Play protection, which has scanned 125 billion apps to keep internet users safe.

In Google's official blog, Abhineet Kaul, Director of Access Partnership said that better affordability and accessibility have allowed more than 97 million Indonesians to access the Internet via smartphones.

Thus, this could result in a contribution of 44 billion US dollars (Rp653 trillion) to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over the past 5 years compared to if Android was not on the market.

"In addition, the cellular open ecosystem created by Google Play and Android has created jobs in the app sector and freelancers in Indonesia, supporting around 162,000 jobs, including direct, indirect work, and additional work," Abhineet continued.
