'X' Giant Logo Marks Elon Musk Headquarters In San Francisco, Lowering Controversy From Residents

JAKARTA - On Friday, July 28, the microblogging company, formerly known as Twitter and now owned by mysterious billionaire Elon Musk, installed the glowing "X" logo on the roof of their headquarters on Market Street. However, the installation drew disappointment from neighbors complaining about the disruptive light, as well as from the San Francisco Building Inspection Department stating that they were investigating the structure.

The move comes after a post from Musk, who announced that a newly-named company will remain in San Francisco even though what he calls a "city disaster circle," where companies are one after another leaving the city.

Musk, who also serves as CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla, has moved the company's headquarters from California to Texas in 2021. The decision to keep X company in San Francisco could be a good sign for cities struggling to recover from tourism and business losses due to the pandemic.

The downtown San Francisco area is facing cuts in work in the tech sector, the departure of major retailers, and the decline in tourism. Traffic has declined as more people work from home, while crime is widespread and homeless problems have tarnished the city's image.

"It's in San Francisco, even if it's something else, we'll always be your friends," Musk wrote.

However, not all San Francisco residents welcomed Musk's friendship. On the weekend, local residents recorded videos of a large wave 'X' that was glowing, pulsating, and flickering, with some criticizing its disruptive light.

User X with the @itsmefrenchy123 account said they would "MARAH" the bright logo, imagining if "there was right in front of your bedroom."

"I'm really surprised by the lack of consideration for anyone else," wrote another user X, @DollyMarlowe.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Building Inspection Department opened an investigation into the structure, stating that it was possible to violate the permit rules.

An inspector from the department noted in a written report that the company's representatives twice refused access to the roof to officials of the Building Inspection Department seeking to examine the logo. The company's representative stated that the sign was temporary. There has been no response from a spokesman for the San Francisco Building Inspection Department on Sunday.
