JAKARTA - Qualcomm Technologies has just launched the Snapdragon X35 5G Modem-RF System, which includes the world's first 5G NR-Light modem-RF system.

It is a low-cost RF modem system that offers device makers a long-term migration path to replace LTE CAT4+ devices, resulting in increased 5G adoption and a faster transition to a unified 5G network.

NR-Light, a new class of 5G, fills the gap between high-speed mobile broadband devices and ultra-low-bandwidth NB-IoT devices.

NR-Light devices powered by Snapdragon X35, can save space due to their smaller size, and cost-effectiveness and provide longer battery life than older mobile broadband devices.

The Snapdragon X35 5G chip can be used in connectivity for ambulances and fire trucks, automobiles, public security, agriculture, and heavy equipment. It can also be used on consumer wearables, XR devices, and more.

“Snapdragon X35 brings together the major 5G breakthroughs expected from the world's leading wireless innovators,” said Qualcomm senior vice president and general manager, cellular modems and infrastructure, Durga Malladi in the company's official blog quoted Thursday, February 9.

“The world's first 5G NR-Light modem features a cost-effective, sleek design with leading power efficiency, optimized thermals, and a reduced footprint. The Snapdragon X35 is poised to power the next wave of connected smart edge devices and empower a wide spectrum of uses."

In addition to the Snapdragon X35, Qualcomm also announced the Snapdragon X32 5G Modem-RF System, a modem-to-antenna solution built to reduce the complexity and cost of NR-Light devices.

Customer sampling for the Snapdragon X35 and X32 is expected to start in the first half of 2023 and commercial mobile devices are claimed to be launched in the first half of 2024.
