JAKARTA - Netflix officially launched a cheaper subscription package with advertising support or called the Basic with Ads package in the United States on November 3.

This ad subscription plan is supported on almost all devices, including smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV/Stick. Unfortunately, this Basic plan will not be supported for Apple TV or Apple TV 4K devices.

According to the Netflix help page found by 9to5google, Netflix provided an update in which they explained what devices are supported for subscribers with the Basic plan.

Unsupported Netflix Basic with Ads for Apple TV

In response to the news, a Netflix representative confirmed to Variety that "Basic package support with ads on tvOS wasn't available at launch but coming soon."

The spokesperson did not say further about why subscription plans with Netflix ads were not available on Apple TV at the same time as yesterday's launch.

Currently, Netflix's new Basic with Ads package is priced at 6.99 US dollars or the equivalent of IDR 107 thousand per month. By choosing that plan, users will see about four to five minutes of ads per hour, but video quality is limited to 720p only.

According to Netflix, this low-cost package will also be available in 11 other countries in November, including Australia, Brazil, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico and Spain. It is not yet known whether Indonesia is also a target.
