JAKARTA - Brisbane-based battery technology company Vaulta has been awarded the 2022 Australian Good Design Award for "Simply Superior Battery Casing Technology".

Founded in 2019 by Dominic Spooner, Vaulta has designed a lightweight battery case, which requires fewer parts thanks to advanced composite materials and a smart, sleek design.

At 10-15% less in weight and size than traditional battery cases, the Vaulta battery case is claimed to help increase the second life value for cells and case parts.

The reason Vaulta received an award from the Australia Good Design Award 2022 is because the battery casing is considered more environmentally friendly and can be recycled to reduce EV battery waste.

“Recycled batteries are functionally too expensive to be a realistic option for companies,” explains Dr Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia and Chair of the Awards, citing The Driven.

The simple design of Vaulta's battery technology can be used to power everything from small electric motorcycles to electric buses and trucks.

Gien also said that the Vaulta battery box is more flexible both in terms of industrial equipment and home appliances. Thus, the storage required is also less.

“I am very pleased with the recognition this award is given, especially as it helps demonstrate our solution to battery waste, a growing problem that Australia needs to address now,” said Dominic Spooner, founder and CEO of Vaulta, in a statement to The Driven.

Spooner says that this design is ready to go now and ready to be rolled out globally.
