No Longer Produce Mobile Phone, Nokia Will Focus On Providing 5G Networks In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Nokia, a Finnish multinational telecommunications, information technology, and consumer electronics company that has been around since 1865 has changed its core business.

Nokia, which once dominated mobile phone products in Indonesia around the 2000s, seems to have lost its prestige with other smartphones. Moreover, the three Chinese products dominate the smartphone market.

However, this does not make Nokia "dead". Although it no longer produces mobile phones, the Finnish company is now changing its business focus to being a 5G network provider.

With the rapid development of technology, Venugopal, CTO of Nokia Indonesia said that the ecosystem is an important key to the development of 5G in the world.

"Nokia is now focused on creating networks that help the world act together. We are committed to delivering critical networks through technology leadership and trusted partnerships," he said at the "Mobile World Congress (MWC) Revisited 2022 Indonesia" in Jakarta, Thursday, June 2.

On the other hand, Nokia brings many innovations and solutions to its focus on 5G networks. However, the company could not give a definite target when the innovation could be adopted in its entirety.

"That (target) is not an easy answer to target in how many years it will be achieved. Because of the different types of networks ranging from mobile networks, IP networks, Core networks, and so on. What is certain is that everything is ready," explained Venugopal to VOI.

With its vast territory and untapped potential in various socio-economic fields, Indonesia will play a major role in Asia-Pacific's digital transformation.
