JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir will collaborate on the electric car, Electric Vehicle Unila (E.V.U 01) made by students and lecturers at the University of Lampung (Unila) with state-owned PT Pindad (Persero).

"I think we'll just introduce it to Pindad so we can learn it because Pindad is already able to produce cars, namely the Maung but still uses gasoline. Let's see if we can collaborate with Pindad so that we can make vehicles made in Indonesia," he said. Erick Thohir while attending a seminar at the University of Lampung as followed online from Jakarta, Sunday.

On that occasion, Erick Thohir asked the names of students involved in the manufacture of the Unila Electric Vehicle (E.V.U 01) electric car to Unila Chancellor Prof. Dr. Karomani.

"So later I will ask for the names of the students, then what kind of collaboration, and later we will bring Pindad," he said.

Erick Thohir said that the Ministry of SOEs is very open to this kind of cooperation.

"For example, the GESITS electric motor is an invention from ITS Surabaya, which has now collaborated with BUMN and has been produced by BUMN. There is also a composition of shares, there are shares for inventors and universities, and this has certainly been going on," he said.

Previously, the University of Lampung (Unila) launched an electric car unit, which was named the Unila Electric Vehicle (E.V.U 01) by the lecturers and students of the campus.

Vice-Chancellor for General Affairs and Finance of Unila Prof. Dr. Asep Sukohar said that the launch of the electric car was Unila's effort to help reduce global warming and fulfill the UI Green Metric assessment and support the sustainable development goals (SDG's) program.

"If we look at the electric car, the body is a little uneven, because this vehicle is made of fiber inserted with natural materials, one of which is bamboo fiber. Of course, this really supports the UI Green Matric program and the SDGs," he said.

Erick Thohir hopes that in the future the electric car program will continue to improve existing deficiencies.
