DKI Provincial Government Beware Of Rob Flood Potential Ahead Of Eid

JAKARTA - Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Maruli Sijabat said there is a potential for coastal flooding or tidal flooding in Jakarta ahead of Eid Al-Fitr 2025.

Maruli said that the potential for tidal flooding was revealed by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in a coordination meeting chaired by the Minister of Home Affairs yesterday.

"There is a potential for rob on the 27th, 28, 29 (March), that's if the tidal wave is related to the high tide in March," said Maruli at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, March 11.

It is predicted that tidal flooding will hit a number of urban villages on the coast of Jakarta, such as Pluit, Muara Angke, Muara Baru, Cilincing, and several other urban villages.

On that basis, the DKI Provincial Government has prepared anticipatory steps to overcome the impact of tidal flooding in Jakarta ahead of Lebaran later.

Among them is distributing information about the potential for rob to the local community to alert pumps that will be activated when the tidal wave hits.

"Then also other anticipatory steps if there is a need for evacuation, then we will prepare facilities for evacuation using the boat that has been given," said Maruli.

"Then we will also meet the basic needs of the refugees in the refugee camps," said Maruli.

In addition to the potential for rob, Jakarta is also predicted to be hit by heavy to extreme rain from March 11 to 20. To minimize the impact of flooding due to high rainfall, the DKI Provincial Government is again carrying out weather modification operations (OMC).

Today, OMC will be carried out starting at 06.30 WIB. The seeding plan was carried out with three sorties using the Casa 212 aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force. The seeding of salt (NaCl) in this weather modification operation was spread around the DKI Jakarta area in the north, including the Thousand Islands.

"We hope to reduce it to 70 or even 80 percent. Our experience from December to yesterday in February, early March was quite significant and up to 70 percent," explained Maruli.
