Microsoft Corp. Stops Xbox One Production, Chooses To Focus On Series X

JAKARTA - Microsoft Corp said on Thursday, January 13 that they have stopped manufacturing all Xbox One consoles and is now focusing on producing the next generation of consoles.

"To focus on production of the Xbox Series X|S, we are ceasing production for all Xbox One consoles at the end of 2020," said Cindy Walker, senior director of Xbox Console Product Marketing.

Microsoft initially discontinued its digital Xbox One X and Xbox One S prior to the launch of the Xbox Series X in 2020.

The software giant launched two Xbox Series X models in November 2020, seven years after the previous version debuted. This is to capture the pandemic-driven surge in consumer spending on games.

However, several industries around the world are facing the burden of an unprecedented shortage of semiconductor microchips, leading to delays in the delivery of some products.

In November, the Nikkei business daily reported that Nintendo Co would also make 20% fewer Switch game consoles than planned due to the chip supply crisis.

Game console makers, indeed have to choose or create a new strategy in the development of game hardware due to various conditions, such as a shortage of chips which will be able to be overcome at some point.
