JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) has finally approved the merger of PT Indosat Ooredoo Tbk (ISAT) and PT Hutchison 3 Indonesia (Tri Indonesia). But there are conditions that must be met.

The Director-General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology, Kominfo, Ismail, stated a number of terms and conditions that must be met by the two companies.

"PT IOH is obliged to add new sites until 2025. With the number of villages and sub-districts that are currently not served," said Ismail in a virtual press conference recently.

"This combined company is obliged to return the radio frequency band to the state of 2x5 Mhz in the 2.1 Ghz frequency band. And given a deadline of one year to return it," said Ismail.

However, Ismail said both parties could decide whose frequency band would be returned. He continued, that the approval of the radio frequency license resulting from the merger will then be determined through a decision of the Minister of Communication and Information.

Ismail emphasized that the in-principle approval from the Minister of Communication and Information does not reduce all obligations of Indosat and Tri Indonesia to the state, the government, as well as the fulfillment of employee rights in accordance with the provisions of the legislation in the field of manpower.
