Indonesia Wins Thomas Cup 2020 after Defeating China 3-0, Celebrate!

JAKARTA - The Indonesian badminton team won the 2020 Thomas Cup after successfully slaying China 3-0 in the final which took place on Sunday, October 17 evening western Indonesia time. With this victory, Indonesia added to its collection of Thomas Cup titles to 14 trophies.

But the Thomas Cup trophy this time is very worthy of celebration. Because the Red and White Team last won the Thomas Cup in 2002, or almost 20 years ago!

For your information, Indonesia won the Thomas Cup for the first time in 1958. After that, the Red-White Team won the title in 1961, 1964, 1970, 1973, 1976, and 1979.

Even so, Indonesia also had slack in achieving the Thomas Cup title in the 1980s because it only got one title in 1984. And in the early 1990s, Indonesia again dominated the Thomas Cup with five successive titles in 1994, 1996, 1998. , 2000 and 2002.

After that, Garuda Team stepped down from the highest throne and could only enter the final twice, namely in 2010 and 2016. Their efforts to bring the trophy back to Indonesia were thwarted by China and Denmark.
