Pass First Challenge At Tokyo Olympics, Gregoria Wins Straight Game Over Thet Htar Thuzar In 22 Time

JAKARTA - Indonesian women's singles badminton player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, passed the first challenge by winning against Myanmar, Thet Htar Thuzar, in the preliminary match in Group M of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In the match which took place at Field 2 Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo, Japan, Sunday, Gregoria won the straight game in just 22 minutes with the final result 21-11, 21-8, as quoted by Antara from the official BWF.

In terms of ranking, Gregoria is indeed far superior because, she is currently ranked 23rd in the world, while Thuzar is at number 65.

The Garuda representative played well in the first game. She immediately stole the opening points and continued to lead thereafter. There was not much significant resistance from Thuzar.

Her opponent was only able to balance up to 4-4. The rest, Gregoria dominated the game.

With agile movements, Gregoria swiftly secured point by point until finally being able to win the first game with a score of 21-11.

Gregoria's path was still smooth until the second game. This time, she had taken the lead from the start. Without wasting much time, he collected points and continued to shoot, while his opponent trailed far behind him.

Gregoria appeared confident to be able to widen the distance with Thuzar 16-4. Her opponent was no longer able to keep up with Gregoria's game and catch up.

With passion and shots on target, the 21-year-old Gregoria finally won again with a closing score of 21-8.

This match is the first meeting for both Gregoria and Thuzar. Previously, the two badminton players had never met in any tournament.

Furthermore, in the preliminary round of Group M, Gregoria still has one match remaining, which is to face Belgian representative Lianne Tan on Wednesday, July 28.

Besides Gregoria, there are still two Indonesian badminton representatives who will play the Tokyo 2020 Olympic group stage match on Sunday, namely the men's singles, Group J Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, against the Hungarian representative, Gergely Krausz, at 11.20 WIB.
