JAKARTA - The Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area is preparing to enter a new phase. The government through the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) is preparing a major transformation that includes the Sultan Hotel area to the golf course around it.

The Minister of Investment and Industrialization and Head of BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani said the area would be developed into a new Indonesian icon with a more comprehensive concept.

"This will be a new icon of Indonesia. It will be comprehensively redesigned," said Rosan at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, June 22.

According to Rosan, the development not only touches the Sultan Hotel area, but also covers the entire GBK area which has an area of approximately 200 hectares.

He said that the management of the area could involve InJourney and Meru, subsidiaries that operate in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

When asked whether the Sultan Hotel would be maintained or demolished, Rosan has not given a firm answer. However, he admitted that the area would eventually be transformed into a new area.

"Eventually, yes," said Rosan when asked about the possibility of the hotel building being demolished.

However, he ensured that the hospitality function would remain part of the development of the area.

According to Rosan, the project is directed not only to beautify the area, but also to create a real economic impact and provide greater benefits for the community.
