JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has issued a stern warning to corrupt actors in state-owned enterprises. He said that SOEs have been one of the sources of corruption and promised to discipline their management.
Prabowo delivered the statement at the 79th National Cooperative Day Summit at GBK, Jakarta, Sunday, July 12, 2026.
"BUMN-BUMN will be disciplined. So far, BUMN-BUMN are the source of corruption," said Prabowo.
He asked corruptors to stop the practice of misusing state wealth and return the people's money.
"Hey, corruptors, be aware. Stop your practices. Return the people's wealth properly," he said.
Prabowo said Indonesia could forgive perpetrators who wanted to correct their mistakes. However, he emphasized that the people still needed justice and welfare.
According to him, state wealth must be used to improve schools, increase the income of teachers, doctors, nurses, officials, and civil servants.
"People need good schools. Teachers need good salaries. Doctors and nurses need good salaries," he said.
In the same speech, Prabowo said the government had consolidated more than a thousand SOEs into one state wealth fund or sovereign wealth fund.
He said the value of assets under management reached US$1 trillion and placed it as one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world.
"We have made one thousand state-owned enterprises one consolidation. The value is one thousand billion dollars, 1 trillion American dollars," he said.
Prabowo did not mention the name of the institution in his speech. However, he said that the consolidation was carried out so that SOEs assets could be managed more orderly and benefit the country.
The warning to corruptors was delivered after Prabowo admitted to being shocked by the size of Indonesia's wealth that was stolen and taken abroad.
