GBK Bidik Andantara Becomes a World Class Area, Not Just a Sports Complex

JAKARTA - The Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) is preparing a major transformation of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area into an international standard center for economic, sports, and tourism activities.

Head of BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani said the development of the area is still in the planning stage, but the direction is to improve all facilities to world-class standards.

"GBK remains a sports area. But we will improve and perfect everything to international standards," said Rosan at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, June 22.

According to Rosan, development not only targets stadiums and sports facilities, but also includes hotels, golf courses, public spaces, and other supporting facilities.

The area of around 200 hectares is projected to become a new economic growth center in Jakarta.

Rosan emphasized that the development of the area must be carried out comprehensively so that it can attract more international activities while providing economic added value.

He also associated the project with the potential for the development of the national tourism sector which still has a large growth space.

Therefore, the government wants to ensure that the GBK area not only serves as a sports center, but also becomes a destination that is able to attract tourist visits and high-value economic activities.
