Chelsea Reaches Deal With Enzo Maresca

JAKARTA - Chelsea reached an agreement to recruit Enzo Maresca as a substitute for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Italian coach was given a big contract by Boehly and Co, the owner of the Blues.

Chelsea will have to pay a compensation fee of 10 million pounds to Leicester City to finalize the deal.

In addition, Si Biru also gave a long contract, five years with the option of one additional year until 2030.

Previously, Chelsea had several candidates to replace Pochettino, such as Kieran McKenna, Roberto De Zerbi, and Thomas Frank.

However, Maresca's name emerged as a favorite over the weekend following her success with Leicester City.

The Italian coach took over the coaching chair at the King Power Stadium squad last summer and guided Leicester back to the Premier League next season on the first attempt.

He won 31 of the 46 Championship 2023/2024 matches with The Foxes.

Prior to joining Leicester, Maresca worked at Manchester City as Pep Guardiola's assistant.

He played an important role in guiding The Citizens to their historic trebles.

Leicester midfielder Harry Winks recently praised Maresca as an extraordinary manager.

"So far he is the best manager I've ever met. He's amazing."

"Everyone will say he will reach the top in terms of managerial status. He has everything. He's a great manager."

"He was tactically extraordinary in some of the decisions he ordered us to make before the game."

"The way he views the game is something I've never experienced before in football," Winks told Sky Sports.

Leicester is considering West Brom boss Carlos Corberan, as an option to replace Maresca who is already tied up at Stamford Bridge.

The former Huddersfield manager guided West Brom to the playoffs this season despite not spending a penny on signing new players.

Corberan's troops failed, losing 1-3 to Southampton in the semifinals.

However, the quality of the energetic Spanish coach remains high. He is considered one of the most clever managers tactically in the 2023/2024 Championship.

Leicester also had to replace most of their dressing room staff.

Maresca will take five coaches from Leicester to Stamford Bridge. Former Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who has retired, is part of Maresca's staff.

In addition, there are also Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, and Javier Molina Caballero.
