JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, successfully won two qualifying matches to qualify for the main round of the 2024 Malaysia Masters.

Shesar got tickets to the main round of the Super 500 BWF event after he came back from behind to beat Sathish Kumar Karunakaran with a score of 13-21, 22-20, and 21-13 on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Shesar previously started his journey at the 2024 Malaysia Masters by beating another Indian representative, S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian, to reach the second round of qualifying.

"Grateful today to be able to play optimally and win the match. The two matches we played today are also not easy. It takes a hard struggle to be able to advance to the main round," said Shesar after the match.

In the main round of the tournament, Shesar will be given a tough test. The 30-year-old badminton player will meet Denmark's second seed, Anders Antonsen.

Previously, Shesar and Antonsen had met twice. Of the two opportunities, both of them secured one victory.

Antonsen first won in their first clash at the 2019 Indonesia Masters. Shesar then responded to the defeat in their second clash at the Thailand Open 2022.

"Lawan Antonsen tomorrow, I will play nothing to lose. I haven't seen the world's top players in a long time. So, yes, just play without a burden. Just try to enjoy the game," said Shesar.

Indonesia actually has two men's singles struggling from the qualifying round. However, Alwi Farhan immediately ran aground in the first round of qualifying.

Shesar's escape automatically made Indonesia have two representatives in the main round of the 2024 Malaysia Masters. Another men's singles is Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.
