Xabi Alonso Not Interested In Liverpool, Bayer Munich Or Real Madrid

JAKARTA - Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has no interest in moving to Liverpool, Bayern Munich or even Real Madrid. Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus said Alonso would stay at Leverkusen.

Alonso suddenly became the trending and target of Europe's top clubs, especially Liverpool and Bayern. Because of Alonso's good performance in Leverkusen.

He successfully led Leverkusen to the top of the German Bundesliga standings. With an eight-point advantage over Bayern who are in second place, Leverkusen has a great chance of a league title for the first time in the club's history.

Not only that, Leverkusen is also still staying in the German Cup or DFB Pokal and Europa League. So, Leverkusen has the opportunity to win trebles this season. If it was Leverkusen who won only one title, Alonso also succeeded in calling it negative 'neverkusen', aka a team that had never won trophies.

Leverkusen's brilliant performance made this Spaniard a target. Liverpool are looking for a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp who resigned at the end of the season.

Liverpool were originally only alone in hunting for Alonso. However, Bayern turned out to be hunting for him because he would break his contract with coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. Both Bayern and Liverpool were strengthened by Alonso when they were still players.

However, Matthaus is not sure Alonso will leave Leverkusen at the end of this season. According to him, Alonson still has ambitions to coach Liverpool, Bayern or Madrid one day.

"His dream is that one day he will train at Bayern, Liverpool or Madrid. But in my opinion he is still not finished with Leverkusen. Alonso is not an easy person to be tempted by the big name of the club. Moreover, he has played in the big clubs," said Matthaus.

In addition, Alonso is not the type of coach who only thinks about salary or the economic side.

"He will not move because of economic factors. What he has in mind is how he builds a team. And, who he invited to build that team," he said.

Furthermore, Matthaus said, "He knows where he came from and who he owes. That's why I'm not sure he'll join other clubs next season."

The former captain of the German national team stated that for now there is no candidate for Bayern coach who is better than Alonso. But right now he doesn't think about other clubs but how to bring Leverkusen to success.

"Currently, there is no European coach or the world that deserves Bayern more than Xabi Alonso. But the problem is, Alonso is fully focused on Leverkusen and this is a good thing," he said.

"He is also not interested in Bayern or Liverpool or Madrid. What he is currently interested in is focusing on winning three titles with Leverkusen," said Matthaus, the former Inter Milan who led Germany to become champions in the 1990 World Cup.
