VAR Use Plan In February 2024 Has Not Been Implemented, PSSI Chairman: Human Resources Still Lacks

VAR was tested in the SSB match at JSI Resort (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chairperson (Ketum), Erick Thohir, responded to the plan to implement a video assistant referee (VAR) in Liga 1 2023/2024 who withdrew from the target. This happened because the operating human resources (HR) were still lacking.

Previously, it was known that the plan to use VAR in Liga 1 2023/2024 was scheduled to take place in February 2024. However, according to the chairman of PSSI, building a referee HR that will be the operator of VAR will take a long time.

"So, what I know is that the regulation is below us, when VAR is implemented, human resources are still lacking. In fact, we have held training 3-4 times," said Erick Thohir after a press conference in Jakarta.

"Therefore, (the application) was too late because of human resources. However, we will definitely meet with human resources. His name building human resources takes time. The League will definitely implement it in these seasons," he said.

Furthermore, the Chairman of PSSI said that to find out the progress of the implementation of VAR, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (PT LIB) as the operator and authorized to carry out the VAR trial.

On the trial agenda, as many as eight cameras were installed at a number of field points used in local football club (SSB) matches.

On the same occasion, the referee and assistant referee also simulated the application of replays to consider crucial decisions.

The demonstration included determining a legal goal or not, a penalty or not, a possible violation that could potentially get a yellow or red card, as well as identifying an identity error.
