Cancer, Olympic Champion Chris Hoy Pantang To Surrender

JAKARTA - In the past year, six times Olympic gold medalist Chris Hoy has been sentenced to cancer. But he said he didn't want to be discouraged and believed he could fight the cancer he had suffered.

"I am optimistic, feeling positive, and I am also surrounded by love that I am very grateful for," Hoy said, quoted from AFP, and reported by ANTARA, Saturday, February 17.

The Scottish athlete revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer since 2023, which he said was a big surprise, because he did not feel any symptoms.

"Last year I was diagnosed with cancer, which was a big surprise, because until then there were no symptoms," said Hoy.

Hoy, a Edinburgh-born cyclist, has tested various bicycle racing tracks as a teenager and won his first Olympic medal, the team silver sprint medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Four years later, he won the Olympics by winning a one-kilometer time-trial in Athens.

He stepped up his Olympic medal with three more gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and two other gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics.

Hoy also won 11 world titles before finally deciding to retire from a bicycle racing competition in 2013.
