Madrid Beat Leipzig Through Brahim Diaz's Goal In The First Match Of The Champions League Last 16

JAKARTA - Real Madrid had to work hard before beating RB Leipzig 1-0 in the first match of the Champions League last 16 at the Red Bull Arena Stadium, Leipzig, Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in the morning WIB. Madrid's single goal was produced by Brahim Diaz who opened Madrid's hopes to the quarter-finals.

Brahim Diaz proved that coach Carlo Ancelotti did not have to worry even though he lost Jude Bellingham who suffered an injury when Madrid won 4-0 over Girona.

Ancelotti, previously stated that he was not worried because he still had Diaz and Joselu to collaborate with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. And, Diaz proved it.

The player who has been loaned to AC Milan for the past three seasons has shown impressive individual action as they brought Marid ahead of the hosts.

Victory over Leipzig gave Madrid an advantage. They open up opportunities to qualify in the quarter-finals. The reason is, Los Merengues only need a draw in the second match which will be held at home at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Madrid, March 7, 2024 in the morning WIB.

On the other hand, Leipzig had to win the second match at home to the opponent. Although away goals are not taken into account, this German Bundesliga club does have to work hard to turn things around

In that match, Leipzig was indeed able to trouble the Madrid defense. Even the hosts had the lead when the game had only been running for three minutes.

Benjamin Sesko's header managed to penetrate the Madrid goal which was guarded by Andriy Lunin. But his goal was disallowed for offside.

Sesko got another chance. But this time he failed to convert into a goal. After getting pressure, Madrid slowly began to rise.

Rodrygo, who was recorded for the 200th match with Madrid, managed to get a chance even though he failed to finish. The score was still without a goal when the first half ended.

In the second half, Madrid immediately kicked off. Just three minutes into the game, Madrid were able to break into the Leipzig goal.

Diaz's goal went through three hosts. He then fired a spectacular shot that beat goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

Leipzig actually quickly got up to catch up. Only then minute after winning 1-0, Leipzig had the chance to score a goal through Dani Olmo. However, Lunin's former Spanish player kick could be saved.

When the ball rebounded, Sesko immediately grabbed it. Again, Lunin blocked it so that a good chance failed from Leipzig.

On the other hand, Madrid had the chance to increase their advantage when Vinicus had a chance in the 72nd minute. But the ball still bounced. The 1-0 score for Madrid lasted until the end of the match.
