Revenge With Liverpool, Pochettino Must Clean Chelsea's 'Away Day'

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino hopes players will be more confident when playing away matches (X/@ChelseaFC).

JAKARTA - Losing 1-4 against Liverpool at Anfield, Chelsea has a grudge and wants to reply in the Carabao Cup final.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted that he had to clean up Chelsea's performance first on away day, aka traveling before finishing the top match.

Chelsea did not move at all when facing Liverpool in the 2023/2024 Premier League duel, Thursday, February 1, 2024, early morning WIB.

Instead of destroying the Liverpool Manager's party, Jurgen Klopp, Chelsea were even battered against the offensive play of the Reds.

The defeat of up to four goals from Liverpool shows that the Blues' away record is still bad. This is what makes it difficult for Chelsea to move from the middle of the league.

Chelsea have lost five times to the last six away games. The only win when the West London team came to beat bottom side Luton Town 3-2.

They last won at home to opponents when they met Tottenham Hotspur at the London Derby in November 2023. When they visited Tottenham's headquarters in North London, they won 4-1.

Furthermore, Raheem Sterling and colleagues lost more often. On the other hand, while playing at Stamford Bridge, the two-time Champions League champion has won four consecutive wins.

Pochettino admits Chelsea are still out of class compared to Liverpool, who are now leading the standings. According to this Argentine manager, Chelsea needed time to close the gap with The Kop.

The dividing gap between the two teams lies in the confidence and character of the players. This is what makes the team less confident when playing away matches.

"We need time so that there are no more gaps separating. This can happen among others because of character and personality. We have to be more confident," said Pochettino in response to the team's very contrasting performance between playing at home and away.

"We have to have strong trust. We have to be able to show the same performance when playing home and away. It's just a matter of time," he said.

Furthermore, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager said the team must continue to improve if they want to compete with the top teams.

"We lost to competing with the team at the top. This shows we need improvements," he said again.

If mental problems have been resolved, Pochettino is optimistic that Chelsea will have a chance to settle their grudges in the Carabao Cup final. The match was held in a neutral place, Wembley Stadium, on February 25, 2024.

"This will be a different match because we play in neutral places. So, we believe in this duel at Wembley," said Pochettino.
