JAKARTA The new Repsol Honda racer, Luca Marini, has started setting high targets with his new team in the 2024 MotoGP season.

Marini moved from her brother Valentino Rossi's RAcing VR46 Racing Team and joined Honda at the end of last season. He replaced the vacant position left by Marc Marquez.

"I want to start with an open mind. We need to understand our speed, our potential after the first official test. We need to find our balance as well as a competitive strategy, that's my first goal, of course," he said, quoted on the HRC Honda website.

"I want to look forward or try to find a way to get on the podium with this motorbike or win. I know it might be difficult, but we have to look forward," he added.

On Honda later, Marini will partner with team-mate Joan Mir. Together with the Japanese factory team, the Italian racer will ride the RC213V motorcycle.

Previously, Marini had undergone a post-season trial with Honda in November 2023. In the test, Marini completed the 10th session.

Marini said that the development of motorbikes will certainly continue to be carried out. They still have time before the 2024 season begins.

"It was incredible, it passed so quickly and that day was over! Of course, we will have plenty of time during winter, during tests, during this season to talk to all team members," Marini said.

"I have very good feelings, I like their culture. We can have very good synergy," he added.

The second 2024 MotoGP trial session will be held at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia, on February 6-8, 2024.

Meanwhile, the opening race for the 2024 season begins at the Lusail International Circuit, Qatar, on March 8-11, 2024.
