JAKARTA - Nissan officially introduced its newest mid-size SUV, Tekton, in a global debut that took place in Mumbai, India. The presence of this model is one of the most important launches for Nissan in the Indian market in recent years.

This model is also expected to be able to strengthen the brand's position in the SUV segment which is very competitive. Actor Hrithik Roshan was appointed as the brand ambassador and also starred in the latest television commercial for this vehicle.

Launching from Rushlane, Friday, July 10, Nissan revealed that the name Tekton was inspired by the Himalayan tectonic plate which symbolizes strength, toughness, and the ability to face various heavy terrains. This philosophy wants to describe the character of the SUV which is designed to support adventure activities.

Interestingly, the name "Tekton" also comes from the ancient Greek language which means builder, craftsman, or expert, namely a figure who creates something with high precision and skill. According to Nissan, the combination of the two meanings reflects the combination of natural forces and workmanship quality that become the identity of modern SUVs.

For the Indian market, Nissan offers the Tekton with an introductory price starting from 1.049 million rupees or around Rp199 million (excluding taxes) for the Visia T160 MT variant. Meanwhile, the highest-end Tekna+ T280 DCT variant is marketed at a price of 1.859 million rupees or around Rp354 million (excluding taxes).

Reservations have been opened through the dealer network and Nissan's official website, while the first delivery is scheduled to begin on July 20. In terms of design, Tekton maintains the look that had previously circulated in various leaks.

This SUV carries a solid character with design inspiration from the Nissan Patrol, presenting a solid and impressive body proportions. The front is decorated with a large black glossy grille with a row of horizontal blades.

A red accent runs across the grille and blends in with the Nissan logo that can light up, creating a distinctive visual identity. The hood is emblazoned with a large Tekton lettering as a confirmation of the SUV's character.

The rectangular LED main headlights are combined with vertical LED daytime running lights (DRL) on the bumper side, while the bottom of the bumper is equipped with a silver skid plate and integrated fog lights.

The side profile features a flat roof line, thick overfender, and high ground clearance that reinforces the SUV impression. Silver roof rail touches, black pillars, and dual-tone alloy wheels with multi-spoke design also present a premium feel.

Meanwhile, the rear is equipped with horizontal LED lights that stretch across the width of the trunk door. Right below it is a large Tekton emblem.

The rear bumper design also adopts a silver-colored skid plate so that it is in harmony with the front view. Overall, Tekton offers a more upright and muscular design compared to a number of rivals in its class.

Entering the cabin, Nissan embeds various modern features, such as ventilated front seats, wireless mobile charger, connected vehicle technology, 360-degree camera, six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) Level 2 on certain variants.

Tekton is available with two turbo gasoline engine options. The T160 variant uses a 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder engine that produces 100 PS of power and 166 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and is claimed to be able to record fuel consumption of up to 19.4 km/liter.

Meanwhile, the T280 variant is equipped with a 1.3-liter turbo gasoline engine that produces 163 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque. Consumers can choose a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed wet dual-clutch automatic (DCT).

Fuel efficiency is claimed to reach 17.8 km/liter for manual transmission and 18.5 km/liter on the DCT version. For color options, Nissan provides six monochrome exterior options, namely Pearl White, Blade Silver, Onyx Black, Rainbow Grey, Fiery Garnet Red, and Indigo Blue.

In terms of safety, Tekton has bagged a five-star rating from Bharat NCAP for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP).

Bharat NCAP explained that Tekton is a twin model of the Renault Duster because both use identical body structures and safety devices. Therefore, the safety assessment of Tekton refers to the results of the Renault Duster crash test conducted in March 2026 so that it does not require separate testing.
