Gregoria Mariska Believes In Having A Chance To Win At The BWF World Tour Finals 2023

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung will appear at the BWF World Tour Finals 2023 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung is confident that she will have the opportunity to win at the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals (WTF) which will take place next week.

The closing competition for the BWF World Tour series will take place on 13-17 December 2023 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo Center, Hangzhou, China.

Gregoria expressed hope that the best results would still exist even though this event was only attended by top eight BWF ranking players.

"Certainly, this tournament is the highest and only eight players have been selected. It's all good. However, of course there is a chance (the winner)," he said.

In the BWF World Tour Finals 2023, Gregoria will compete with seven other top women's singles.

They are An Se-young (South Korea), Chen Yufei (China), Akane Yamaguchi (Japan), Carolina Marin (Spain), Tai Tzu Ying (Taiwan), Han Yue (China), Beiwen Zhang (American), and Kim Ga-eun (Korea).

Of the total eight names, they will be divided into two groups each containing four players. The group draw will be held on December 11, 2023, to coincide with the gala dinner.

All players in each group will face each other in a round robin system. The top two of each group will then get a semifinal ticket.

Gregoria said the competition, which started with the group stage, was certainly interesting. Calculation of points will have a big impact so that it needs to maximize all opportunities no matter how small.

"How do I take advantage of that opportunity and how do I show the best way of playing."

"That also affects. So, I want to pursue that opportunity so that I can get the best results," he said.

Gregoria is one of six Indonesian representatives who will appear in the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals. The other five representatives, namely Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, and Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

Indonesia has so far recorded a very poor title since the BWF World Tour Finals was held starting in 2018 replacing the title Super Series Finals.

Of the five editions that have been held, only men's doubles Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan have come out as champions. It happened in the 2019 edition in Guangzhou, China.
