China Masters 2023: Leo/Daniel Defeated In First Superior Hand

Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin lost to the Indian pair in the quarter-finals of the 2023 China Masters (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - The Indonesian men's doubles pair, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin, ran aground in the quarter-finals of the 2023 China Masters.

The 2019 junior world champion had to return home after falling 16-21 and 14-21 against first seed, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, on Friday, November 24, 2023.

Leo after the match admitted that the opponent actually had a gap that they could exploit. However, they did not take advantage of the opponent's weakness.

"It must be admitted, the opponent played quite well. Actually there are loopholes that can be used, but we can't take advantage of that opportunity," he said.

In the first game Leo/Daniel appeared solid and gave a tight fight. Unfortunately, in the second game, they only had one chance to equalize the score.

It happened at two starting points. After 1-1 position, Leo/Daniel's efforts to win over the opponent were completely fruitless.

"It seems that the opponent is getting more confident, while we are even more depressed in the second game. We are also still making a lot of mistakes ourselves," said Leo.

This result clearly worsened Leo/Daniel's record against the Indian representative. Of the total four meetings, they were recorded as never winning.

The previous three defeats also occurred this year. Their first defeat suffered at the Japan Open which took place in July 2023.

Meanwhile, the second and third defeats occurred respectively at the World Championships in August 2-23 and the 2022 Asian Games at the beginning of last month.
