JAKARTA - There are many reports that Lionel Messi has won the title of Men's Balln d'Or, it seems that he has dismissed the achievements also achieved by a female footballer from Spain, Aitana Bonmati.

The Spanish midfielder and Barcelona FC won the Women's Ballon d'Or for the first time. At the age of 25, he had a very successful year by helping his club win the title in the highest Spanish league and Champions League. He also helped his country win the World Cup last summer.

His achievements were also recognized when he was named UEFA's best player in August. This seems like an undeniable achievement when compared to Messi's controversy.

Meanwhile, England's national team goalkeeper, Mary Earps, won fifth place, while her teammate, Rachel Daly, is in tenth place. Other Lioness players, Millie Bright and Georgia Stanway, are also on the nomination list.

Sam Kerr of Chelsea and Australia ranks second, followed by Salma Paralluelo of Barcelona and Spain in third place, and Fridolinariso from Barcelona and Sweden in fourth place.

"I am very proud to win the Ballon d'Or. Football is a collective sport, so I would like to share this award with our team-mates and staff," Bonmati said after his victory announcement.

"Finally, congratulations to the other nominees. They are great football players. As role models, we have responsibilities on and off the pitch. We have to be more than athletes and continue to set examples and fight together for a better, peaceful and equal world," he said.

Spain's victory in the World Cup was hindered by the controversy over the president of the Spanish football federation, Luis Rubiales, who kissed Jenni Hermoso after the final, which he claimed was not voluntary. Bonmati himself scored three goals in the tournament in Australia and New Zealand as Spain finally beat England in the final.

He has won four league titles with Barcelona and two Champions Leagues. This is the fifth edition of the Women's Ballon d'Or, where Barcelona team-mate Alexia Putellas won the award in the last two years.
