Liverpool Wait For Offers For Thiago Alcantara, And Continue To Interest Bruno Guimaraes

Liverpool are reportedly willing to listen to midfielder Thiago Alcantara's offer during the January transfer window, given that their contract at Anfield expires next summer. The 32-year-old joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in September 2020, but his career in the Premier League series is haunted by injury.

Thiago only appeared in 18 Premier League games for Liverpool last season. Started as a starting player in 14 games before experiencing hip problems at the end of the season.

The Spaniard has not even played for Liverpool since the 2-1 defeat at West Ham United on April 26. At that time he appeared for 31 minutes as a substitute.

According to a Football Insider report, Liverpool is ready to accept an offer for Thiago Alcantara in the January transfer window, so his stay at Anfield may end.

The report states that Liverpool are willing to let go of this player given that the Spaniard's salary is quite large at the club.

Liverpool and Thiago have opened talks about a new contract for the midfielder, but the club is not yet willing to grant a contract extension to the current 32-year-old.

Thiago's poor track record in injury and appearance since joining Bayern three years ago prevented Liverpool from offering a new contract. The 2020 Premier League champions appear to want to see improvements in those statistics before starting further negotiations.

The report also added that Thiago was in demand by clubs in the Turkish Super League and the Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window. But none of the potential enthusiasts managed to secure the deal.

Liverpool also refused to terminate Thiago's contract, so the player was unable to join Trabzonspor in Turkey in September.

Thiago Alcantara's current contract expires in the summer of 2024, meaning the Spanish international can leave for free if a new deal cannot be reached.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly still interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United even though the player will sign a new contract with Newcastle. The 25-year-old is one of Newcastle's first recruits after being taken over by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

Guimaraes joined Newcastle when the team was still struggling to avoid relegation. But the Brazilian's help helped the club finish the 2021-22 season well and rank 11th in the Premier League.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano's report, through his column at The Daily Briefing, Liverpool are still interested in signing Guimaraes even though he is preparing to make a new contract at Newcastle.

The report states that Jurgen Klopp and the club hierarchy still admire the Brazilian despite failing to bring him to Anfield in the summer transfer window.

Amid the departure of players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League, Liverpool's midfield was updated before the 2023-24 season. Liverpool managed to sign four midfielders for their main squad before the transfer window closed, including Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch.

Liverpool were satisfied with the players they managed to bring to Anfield, but the satisfaction did not reduce their interest in Guimaraes.

However, it is reported that Guimaraes, who has agreed to a new contract with Newcastle, will continue to play at St James' Park until the summer of 2028.

The verbal agreement has been reached between Guimaraes and the club over a new contract, which will cost the midfielder much more than his current contract.

The new contract will include a release clause worth around 100 million pounds, providing opportunities for potential clubs like Liverpool to secure their services in the future.

Inclusion of buy-out clauses (releases) is non-negotiable for players, and Guimaraes is reportedly happy with developments in Newcastle since his arrival a year ago.

Guimaraes scored in the second half when Newcastle crushed Sheffield United 8-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, and Eddie Howe's side will face Manchester City in the next EFL Cup.
